From our beginning in 2005 Friends has enjoyed tremendous volunteer participation in restoration work at the Depot. Since 2005 volunteers have worked more than 19,400 hours doing all sorts of skilled and unskilled labor. Much of the initial work was hot and dirty, but it was done with enthusiasm. Many humorous events occurred during these hours, and a spirit of camaraderie prevailed through it all. Even if calculated at minimum wage, this labor had a value of more than $268,000. Participation at a "hands dirty" level brings a sense of satisfaction that only those who volunteer will ever know. Now that the dream the fully restored Depot is a reality, new member volunteers join those who have worked many years at the site, and a special bond is always formed with the group.
